FAQ

Ajax elevator questions

How long is each elevator out of service during modernization?

Usually several weeks per car, depending on scope. We phase multi-car buildings so at least one elevator keeps running.

Will modernization reduce energy use?

Modern drives and LED lighting usually reduce elevator energy use compared with older motor-generator or relay systems.

Is there a mandatory periodic safety test for elevators in Ontario?

Yes — elevating devices are subject to periodic inspection and testing requirements under the elevator safety code (ASME A17.1 / CSA B44) as adopted in Ontario, administered by TSSA. We schedule and document required tests.

Can you plan a 10-year elevator budget for our building?

Yes — a capital plan lists each car, its condition and the recommended timing and cost range of work.

What happens after an inspection order in Ontario?

The order lists deficiencies and a deadline. We quote and schedule the corrections so the device stays licensed with TSSA.

Durham Region

Buildings in Ajax

Downtown AjaxPickering VillageLakeshore

Buildings in Downtown Ajax, Pickering Village and Lakeshore span several generations of elevator technology — relay controls in older towers, early microprocessor systems from the 1990s and newer machine-room-less units. Our work starts by identifying which generation you have, because that decides what can be repaired and what should be replaced.

Where a building in Ajax needs better accessibility, we combine modernization with upgraded signals, door timing and car controls.

Cold winters, road salt and grit wear door sills and tracks, and hydraulic cars slow down in unheated spaces.

Compliance

Elevator rules in Canada

  1. Elevating devices in Ontario are licensed and inspected by the Technical Standards and Safety Authority (TSSA) under O. Reg. 209/01.
  2. Design, installation and maintenance follow the CSA B44 Safety Code for Elevators and Escalators.
  3. Only TSSA-registered contractors with certified mechanics may maintain or alter elevating devices.
